Task Enjoyment as an Individual Difference Construct

Are there individual differences in the tendency to enjoy tasks regardless of tasks' contents or situational determinants? To answer this question, we constructed and validated six-item Trait Task Enjoyment Scale (TTES). In Study 1, it had an internally consistent one-factor structure (pooled N = 997); good test-retest reliabilities over 1 4 months; measurement invariance regarding gender (strong) time (partial strong); was not redundant with respect a large number theoretically related constructs. Studies 2 3, TTES predicted self-reported momentary task enjoyment, one its opposites, boredom, voluntary persistence free-choice paradigm. It did so for various tasks, including thirty diverse presented vignettes memory lab. Results suggest that may predict enjoyment objective aversiveness or, case, equally well boring enjoyable contents. The addresses important gap current research on is adequately valid reliable tool.
